AzLAF “Mom School” Guidelines

What is a “Mom School”?

A "Mom School," as defined by Dr. Oliver DeMille, is a group, class, or club that a mother (or parent) organizes and institutes to give his/her child—or him/herself—what he or she needs, and then invites other children/people to come along. These "schools" are supplemental in nature, not displacing parental instruction, and can be large or small, may be free or have a tuition, and may be based on almost any subject. Within our AzLAF group, we have seen some Mom Schools that have blessed the lives of countless children and families.

Why should I list my “Mom School” with AzLAF?

Part of the mission of AzLAF is to “empower families who inspire greatness in others” and we hope to become a resource for families seeking to establish Mom Schools for their children. We have an extensive network of TJEd families at our disposal, and we are actively seeking to build and strengthen the TJEd community in Arizona. Mom Schools listed with AzLAF have use of the AzLAF website, e-mail list, and monthly newsletter and they will be free to use any AzLAF event to promote their groups.

What are the guidelines for being listed as an AzLAF “Mom School”?

First and foremost, we ask that any Mom Schools supported by AzLAF be TJEd-centric, and be in harmony with the AzLAF mission statement, which is:

To foster and empower families who inspire greatness in others and preserve the American Founders' ideals of community, liberty, scholarship and self-reliance with a firm belief in Divine Providence.

Therefore, “Mom Schools” should:

  • Preserve community, liberty, scholarship, self-reliance, and belief in Divine Providence
  • Be of high quality, and the leaders of good character
  • Espouse leadership education (TJEd) principles
  • Inspire Greatness
  • Be “Phase Appropriate” (This is in reference to the 4 Phases of Learning.)
  • Have a specific purpose and goals
  • Supplement, yet not supplant the parents in their roles as academic and spiritual leaders of their children
  • Be run by a person that is a member of AzLAF
  • Be built upon high moral principles
  • Involve the parents of the children participating
  • Be independently funded, organized, and run by the Mom leading the “Mom School”

How do I register my “Mom School” with AzLAF?
